Connor the Crusher
Ink, watercolor and spray on 22” x 30” watercolor paper
When I donated the Stone Cold painting to the Connor’s Cure auction with WWE, I started corresponding with Connor’s dad. The young man’s story was emotional already, but then talking to his dad made it all the more real so I decided to do this painting for him and the family. It was such a fun and special moment that WWE made happen, it seemed like a natural to paint.
I know that what I do with my wrestling paintings means a lot to so many of you, but lately I had lost sight of the potential of how special art can be. Connor’s dad received the painting yesterday and called me to thank me. He said that he hadn’t been able to look at any photographs of Connor from that time because all he could see was how sick his son was. But he was able to look at the painting and see the strong spirit of Connor in the way I depicted him. That’s…sobering. It puts into perspective what I do, and how thankful I am that I have this skill which allows me to allow a father to look at a picture of his son.
